The Birth of the Mount Zion Law College Moot Court Society
The year 2023 marked a significant milestone in the history of Mount Zion Law College, as it witnessed the inception of the esteemed Moot Court Society—a visionary initiative aimed at cultivating legal acumen and advocacy skills among budding law professionals. This journey, though challenging, was fueled by passion, determination, and collective effort.
A Vision Takes Root
The idea of the Moot Court Society began as a collaborative vision. Together with Professor Heera Das, Professor Anandalekshmi, and Professor Reshmi S. Nair, I, Dhyan Prakash, a 4th-year student of the B.Com LLB batch (2019-2024), brought the proposal to Principal Rajan Sir. Principal Rajan’s unwavering support and belief in the potential of the initiative gave us the confidence to move forward. His guidance ensured that the society would have a solid foundation.
Crafting the Framework
Creating the structural framework of the society was a crucial step. I worked closely with Professor Sandeep Sir, providing inputs and collaborating on the drafting of the bylaws. Their finalization was made possible with the collective efforts of the faculty, including Professor Heera Das, Professor Anandalekshmi, and Professor Reshmi S. Nair, who played key roles in shaping the society’s governance model.
Acknowledging the First Executive Team
As the President of the Moot Court Society, I held the responsibility of framing teams and steering the direction of its activities. This position not only came with authority but also with immense accountability. I was determined to achieve as much as possible within the society’s first year, knowing it would be my final year at the college.
The first executive team deserves special recognition for their commitment and hard work during this formative phase. Ejaz Ahmed Siyad took on the role of Secretary, Sneha Eswar as Vice President, Praise Gheevarghese Reji managed media responsibilities as Media Handler, and Megha ably handled finances as Treasurer. Together, this team embraced my ambitious goal of organizing both an intra-college and a national-level moot court competition, all while balancing demanding academic schedules.
Overcoming Challenges
The journey was not without challenges. Coordinating events alongside exams and other commitments required exceptional dedication from everyone involved. The first national online moot court competition, presided over by Principal Gifty Oomen, was a monumental achievement that showcased the team’s resolve and ingenuity. The support of the Chairman of the Mount Zion Group, Sam Kalamannil, and the founder, Abraham Kalamannil, was instrumental in ensuring the success of these endeavors.
Gratitude and Personal Reflections
Looking back, I feel immense gratitude for the incredible team that stood by me during this journey. Ejaz, Sneha, Praise, Megha, and every member of the team—you believed in my vision and turned it into reality. Your dedication, creativity, and resilience brought life to the Moot Court Society and made it more than just an idea.
To my professors, Principal Rajan Sir, Principal Gifty Oomen, and the college administration, thank you for your guidance and unwavering support. A special thanks to the Chairman, Sam Kalamannil, and the founder, Abraham Kalamannil, for their commitment to nurturing this initiative.
A Personal Note of Thanks
To Professor Heera Das, Professor Anandalekshmi, Professor Reshmi S. Nair, and Professor Sandeep Sir—your encouragement, patience, and unwavering belief in our ability to create something impactful made all the difference. You guided us with kindness and clarity, ensuring we could channel our energy into meaningful work. Principal Rajan Sir, your vision laid the groundwork for this dream to flourish. Principal Gifty Oomen, your presence and support during our first national moot court competition uplifted and inspired us immensely. Thank you for believing in us and helping us succeed.
A Legacy in the Making
Since its inception, the Mount Zion Law College Moot Court Society has become a cornerstone of legal education at the college, fostering talent and setting a benchmark for excellence. The support from faculty, students, and the administration has been invaluable in transforming this dream into reality. As I reflect on this transformative journey, I take pride in leaving behind a legacy that will inspire and empower future generations of students.
